A New York City couple bought this Martha’s Vineyard cape as an anniversary gift to spend summers there with their three children. The family’s love of the existing house and vernacular island architecture inspired this unassuming transformation from the tiny cape whose essence remains on the front facade; to a luxury retreat that unfolds across the double-lot deep backyard.

The main house is doubled in size; adding an open Living, Kitchen, and Dining room for a family who loves to cook and entertain. A second floor balcony and ensuite bath for the third bedroom are added above the addition. New openings across the rear facade flood the open plan with light and views out to a 60’ lap pool and spa surrounded by verdant lawn and spa-like landscaping. A new two-car garage and pool house with second-floor one bedroom apartment bookends the pool, providing privacy for a future family with children to unwind.
